The service is focused on routes in the US and Canada, allowing users to select simple route preferences and facilities along the route.

The FreeTrip website is a good example of what online trip planning tools were like before companies such as Google Maps transformed the mapping industry. It would be interesting to see if FreeTrip does incorporate the features of Google Maps into its site to upgrade its functionality.
